ADHD Assessment & Diagnosis

Learn about ADHD Diagnosis and how we approach Assessment at Riverside Psychology

How ADHD is Diagnosed

Diagnosing ADHD involves a comprehensive assessment by a qualified health professional. In the UK, the process often follows the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. A clinical diagnosis involves;
A detailed history of symptoms/features from childhood to adulthood
Establishing how symptoms impact everyday life, work, relationships and sense of self
Input from close family members and friends when possible, or getting information from school reports etc.
Ruling out other conditions that could better explain the person’s experience

ADHD Diagnosis at Riverside

ADHD Assessments at Riverside are carried out in two stages

1st Stage

An initial assessment appointment evaluating the likelihood of you having ADHD, excluding other conditions which can look like ADHD, and creating a psychological formulation of your history and current challenges.

If the likelihood is that you have ADHD, we can carry out a full assessment.

The cost of initial assessment is £200.

2nd Stage

If you choose a full ADHD assessment, this will be carried out over 2 appointments.
The first ADHD assessment appointment will involve taking a full neurodevelopmental history and psychometric testing.

The second ADHD assessment appointment will involve feedback on assessment results, diagnosis as appropriate, develop an individualised plan of your current needs and detail your options for the most helpful treatment and management.

You will be issued a detailed psychological diagnostic report based on your psychometric testing and assessment appointments.
It will cover the aspects of ADHD as relevant to you, and the impact they have on your life, as well as a recommended treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

The cost of a full ADHD assessment is £800.
